1. What we collect

When you create a Clerk account, we collect:

• Account info — your name, email address, and password (encrypted)
• Business info — business name, address, and tax details you enter in settings
• Client data — names, emails, and billing addresses of your clients
• Invoice data — invoices, line items, payments, and related financial records
• Chat messages — conversations with the AI assistant to improve the service
• Usage data — page views, feature usage, and error logs for debugging

2. How we use it

• To provide the invoicing service — creating, sending, and tracking invoices
• To send transactional emails — invoice delivery, payment reminders, password resets
• To improve the AI assistant based on conversation feedback
• To generate business insights and reports for your account
• To prevent fraud and ensure platform security

3. What we don't do

• We never sell your data to third parties
• We don't send marketing emails unless you opt in
• We don't share your client data with other Clerk users
• We don't use your financial data for advertising

4. Email communications

We send emails only when triggered by your actions:

• Invoice emails — sent to your clients when you click "Send"
• Payment reminders — sent when you choose to remind a client
• Account emails — password resets, invitations you send
• Weekly reports — optional summary of your invoicing activity

Your clients can contact you directly at the email on your invoices. We handle bounces and complaints automatically.

5. Data storage & security

• All data is stored on encrypted servers in AWS (United States)
• Passwords are hashed with bcrypt — we cannot read them
• All connections use HTTPS/TLS encryption
• Access is restricted to authenticated users for their own tenant data only

6. Data retention

Your data is kept as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Financial records may be retained longer as required by law.

7. Your rights

You can:

• Export your data at any time
• Update or correct your information via your profile
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Contact us with any privacy questions

8. Third-party services

We use:

• Amazon Web Services — hosting and email delivery (SES)
• OpenAI — powers the AI assistant (messages are sent to their API)

We do not use analytics trackers, ad networks, or social media pixels.
